Do I need to shave before starting?
It is certainly preferred. How else can we monitor the radical shift from clean shaven to fully bearded wonder? If you don’t shave, you will certainly be excluded from any contests related to beard growing.
Can I shave my neck? It itches!

What about areas other than the face?
Where you choose not to shave is up to you, but ideally it’s somewhere on your body that can make G-rated pictures. This about sharing the experience and no one, and I mean no one, wants to see your short and curly’s.

No. Let your patchy, bushy, and/or curly hair grow in it’s natural way.
Yeah, but my wife/gf is complaining that I look like a wild man.
Take that as a compliment and don’t even think about reaching for the trimmer.
